Water damage is a very tricky problem to assess, you know there is damages but have no idea where the potential leak is located and how to shut it off. If you are unexperienced in disaster mitigation the best thing to do is to first identify where the leak is coming from. Remove and store all your precious belongings away from the leak, in a separate room or higher up , away from the flooding.

call SERVPRO of Petaluma/Rohnert Park

Call a reputable plumber

After potentially finding where the damage has incurred and you have shut off the water main, schedule a plumber to come out and repair the damages.  If you cannot identify exactly where the leak is , an experienced licensed plumber will be able to assist you. In the time being, start by getting towels and soak up as much of the water as possible.

Call you insurance company

A SERVPRO representative will come out and assess the damages that incurred.  Water damage spreads quickly and can become very costly if not addressed immediately . Water damage can lead to mold growth which would need even more remediation services. The structural integrity could be affected, it is best to get your claim started immediately. Depending on your region, certain floods or water damages will not be covered under your policy, so it is best to reach out and speak with your insurance once a SERVPRO technician has assessed the damages.
